Summer is more fun in Newland

Summer is the time that the youth and children are waiting for. This is the time where they are free from the four corners of the classroom, the time when they can play outside without thinking of their assignments and projects, the time that they can wake up late without thinking of the school bell. But it remained a dream and a wish for kids who are enrolled in this year’s Summer Youth Activities, because the enrolled students together with the volunteers need to wake up early to attend the eight o’clock class at SPA Youth Center – Newland. In exchange of waking up early, they will learn new things, gain new friends and have a memorable summer.

Summer Youth Activities 2013 lasted for two weeks. This involves children from Grade 3 up to High School level. These children were taught by the fully equipped and trusted Youth Volunteers of the Youth Ministry of San Pablo Apostol Parish. There are four major academic subjects namely, Mathematics, English, Science and Filipino. These subjects were been taught during the morning session of Tuesday and Thursday, while Religion or Catechism were taught during Monday and Friday of the morning session. Aside from learning academics, the children were given the freedom to choose where they want to join on the skills development class. The different skills classes are Dance, Singing, Arts, Theatre Arts and Guitar Lesson. But the most awaited day not only by the students but also for the Teachers is the Sports Day. Sports Day is the day that they can play, have fun and bond with each other. The main event for the sports day is the Water Games, students together with the teachers use water guns and balloons filled with water and make sure the opponents are damp with water. That day was full of fun and joy, everyone go home wet but you can see in their faces the happiness that they had during the sports day.

Every year, students await the Field Trip, but for this year, it’s only a half-day trip at Manila Zoo and at the Children’s Playground at Luneta. The field trip was very memorable not only for the happiness that everyone felt, but also for the problems that they have encountered during and before the said event, especially for the transportation.

Maybe the field trip is the most awaited day for the students, but for the teachers seeing their students marching to the stage and receiving their diplomas during the graduation is the happiest moment during the Summer Youth Activities. This graduation is the fruit of all the hardships and all of their sacrifices, time and effort that the volunteers gave during the Summer Activity.

All the graduated students of the Summer Youth Activity were now one step ahead and ready for the next school year compare to their classmates in their respective schools that are not enrolled on the Summer Youth Activity.

Many ups and downs came through by the Catechists during the preparation and for the SYA proper. Also some of the parents of the catechists have been complaining for the time of going home of their child, this is because the catechists are preparing their lesson plans and visual aids that will be used for tomorrow’s lesson, this only proves the dedication of all the teachers to the children that they are teaching on their respective classes. All of the graduated students and teachers are hoping and wishing for more enjoyment, more friends, and more lessons to be learned for the next year Summer Youth Activity.
